Revival’s falls recovery service invaluable for Derbyshire’s residents

It’s been a busy year at our Derbyshire Dales and Erewash Falls Recovery service since it launched on 2 January 2020.

Since then, the service has helped customers over 152 times after a fall in their homes.

For one of our customers, Molly*, the service has been a real lifeline since she has a community alarm fitted in March.

The 97-year-old was referred to Revival by her support worker. She has postural hypertension, which leaves her at a higher risk of falling, and uses a walking frame to help her get around. Living with Molly is her son, who is also at a high risk of falls.

Since the family have had the community alarm fitted, we’ve visited multiple times to assist them up from the floor, when they are uninjured.

As well as visiting within 45 minutes and making sure both of them are safe and well afterwards, the team at our Falls Recovery service also work closely with their GP so they are aware of the falls and to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Molly told us the service has made her feel safe and reassured: “I can press my pendant and somebody will help me. It’s given me peace of mind and I feel like someone cares about me.”

Since launching, the service has reduced pressure on the East Midland’s Ambulance Service during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped to reduce the time that the customer is waiting .

Julie Russell, Support and Wellbeing Manager, at Revival, said: “We believe a home should be the place where you feel your best and this service means people can be reassured that if they fall at home we will be there to help them get on their feet again if they don’t need medical support”

“Our falls recovery service is really invaluable for residents in the Derbyshire Dales and Erewash who are at risk of falling and this year it’s been more needed than ever to help reduce pressures on the NHS who would usually deal with falls.”
