Revival help Derbyshire man feel safer in own home

  • Date: 11/08/2020

Robert is 84 years old and lives on his own in the Derbyshire Dales.

He called Revival after his neighbour saw one of our leaflets in the local GP surgery.

Over the last 6 months, his mobility and balance has deteriorated. His feet have also swollen, meaning he’s at high risk of falling in his home, which was making him anxious and feel unsafe.

Robert called Revival to ask about fitting a community alarm and other assistive technology, which he thought would make him feel safer. Our team ran through the installation and cost of the alarm and arranged for a COVID safe home visit to make sure it was suitable for the alarm and see if there was anything else we could do to help him feel safer.

During the visit, Robert mentioned his house phone was hard to hear and use. The team priced up some large buttoned handsets with a loud speaker and found one available on next day collection for £9.99.

Robert was afraid to go in store to collect as he didn’t want to risk catching the virus, so the Derbyshire team organised to collect the new phone for him and plug it in the next day.

Now Robert feels much safer and happier in his home. He can easily call for assistance after a fall or in an emergency and he will soon have a community alarm fitted for extra security if he falls.
