Loan Shark Awareness Week runs from Monday 24th November to Sunday 30th November 2025. It’s all about helping people stay safe from illegal money lenders. Some people offer cash when you’re struggling, but they’re not always what they seem. These people are called loan sharks, and they can make life very hard.

What is a Loan Shark?
A loan shark is someone who lends money without the right license. That means they’re breaking the law.
They might:

Add big charges or interest that keep going up.

Threaten or scare you if you can’t pay.

Take your bank card, ID, or other things as a way to control you.
They may seem friendly at first, but they often turn nasty.
How to Spot a Loan Shark
