At Revival, we understand that support doesn’t stop for weekends, holidays, or special occasions. Come rain or shine, our customers know they can rely on us.
For many people, the festive season can be a very difficult time, especially if they don’t have family, friends, or a strong support network around them. While Christmas and New Year are often seen as joyful, they can also increase feelings of anxiety, low mood, and isolation.
For one of our customers, Deborah, the festive period made existing mental health challenges feel more intense. When things become overwhelming, day-to-day life can feel much harder to manage. This may lead to withdrawing from normal routines, drinking more alcohol than usual, missing medication, neglecting personal care, and struggling to keep on top of the home.
Because of these concerns, Deborah was referred to Revival by Adult Social Care. There were worries about her wellbeing and the risk of isolation during a time of year she finds particularly challenging.
Our trusted team began welfare checks on Christmas Eve, making sure Deborah had someone to check in, talk to, and provide reassurance throughout the festive season. These visits weren’t rushed or clinical; they were about being present, listening, and offering calm, consistent support when it was needed most.
Rather than pushing activities that might increase anxiety, the team focused on support that felt safe, familiar, and right for the individual. This person-centred approach helps customers feel respected, understood, and in control of their own lives.
Support isn’t always about big interventions, sometimes it’s the small, thoughtful gestures that matter most.
During one visit, our team gifted Deborah a shower set as a Christmas present. This helped support personal hygiene at a difficult time, but just as importantly, it meant she didn’t miss out on receiving a gift during the festive season. Deborah shared how meaningful it was to feel remembered, included, and cared for.
Welfare checks continued over Christmas and into the New Year, providing a safe space for open, judgement-free conversations. Having someone to talk to helped Deborah reflect on her wellbeing, recognise what wasn’t helping her feel better, and regain a sense of control.
Knowing that Revival would continue to show up, consistently and reliably, helped reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety during a time that is usually overwhelming.
Deborah told us she was happy with the support from Revival and that the welfare checks helped her get through a period she normally finds extremely difficult. Simply knowing someone would be there to check in, listen, and offer reassurance made a genuine difference.
Most importantly, Deborah was able to remain safely and independently in her own home, supported in a way that respected her choices, dignity, and individual needs.
Many people struggle silently at different points throughout the year, not just at Christmas. Deborah’s experience shows that the right support doesn’t need to be intrusive or overwhelming. It needs to be reliable, flexible, and built on trust.
That’s what we do at Revival. We help people remain independent in their own homes, reduce isolation, maintain wellbeing in a way that works for them, and provide compassionate, flexible support when our customers need it most, whatever the season.
Could Revival support you or someone you love?
